Is two entries on one day committing ‘blogicide’? I’m still not sure of the blogging etiquette, but I hope not. I just thought that I should maybe say a little bit more about me. I’ll try to keep it brief as I don’t want this to turn into one of those self-indulgent me, me, me, blogs (yawn) but it may help to put all of these entries into context if you don’t know me…
I’m 27 earth years and have been with my husband Ben for 5 years – or actually maybe 6, I’m not much of a counter (no really, I do simple add ups on a calculator). We got married in Mexico earlier this year. We travelled half way round the world to have a tropical beach wedding and ended up having the ceremony in the middle of a thunderstorm! It was truly tropical and a magical experience but as with many other things in my life had elements of the unexpected and was not quite as planned but awesome 🙂
I work as a researcher specialising in kids and teens. It’s quite ironic to have a ‘specialism’ related to kids when you get pregnant and realise you know NOTHING about babies! So whilst I do have a pretty robust knowledge about what kids think are cool and what they’re into, I have no clue what it feels like to be a mummy!
Ben and I made the grand old decision to have a baby at the end of last year. We’ve always been keen and I’ve always wanted to be a young mum with plenty of time to churn out a sizable family of ‘mini Martins’. We tried to work out what it was we were really waiting for and couldn’t really come up with any good answers besides those tiny things like a house, money blah, blah, but I don’t believe it’s those things make a happy family anyway, so we decided to go for it. We thought it would take a couple of months or at least a few weeks from coming off the pill to conceiving but it took about 3 seconds (not the actual sex that is…oh god). So I ended up being 6 months preggers at our wedding which wasn’t quite the plan but I had an awesome dress so all was good in the hood. We also had a lush 5 week honeymoon travelling around America and it was really exciting to think that we would return from the wedding to start our family.
Ben works as video editor so you can expect some funny vids of mummyhood on here soon (hopefully!). I met Ben in Bournemouth when I went to uni there. Without making you all puke onto your screens, he’s the most amazing husband and we have a very fun time together. I can’t wait to see him being a Daddy, it actually makes me want to cry thinking about seeing him with our new bundle…ok put the buckets away now, I’m done.
Right I’m off to Tesco. Ben will kill me for using the car (he seems to think pregnancy removes all driving skills and knowledge) but I need to stock up on Giant Chocolate Buttons and other important nutritional foods.
